CALLE HORNO DEL VIDRIO, ABAICIN, GRANADA

The property sits in the lower part of the Albaicín, the old Moorish quarter of the city of Granada, and everywhere there are echoes of the area’s history dating back to the 13th-15th Century. Narrow medieval cobbled lanes, Moorish arches, Carmenes (old manor houses with lush gardens hidden behind high walls) and tantalising views of the stunning Alhambra (a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Spain’s most visited monuments).

The Horno del Vidrio, as the name suggests, was a craftsman’s glass-making factory and it was here in the XVI Century that delicate perfume bottles were created. The property originally belonged to the Secretary to the Catholic Monarchs, Isabel and Fernando, and there remain many reminders of the building’s illustrious past: beautiful timber ceiling beams, stone foundations of the glass-maker’s furnaces, courtyards and patios so typical of the architectural style of the period.

The creation of these 14 apartments sensitively considers the heritage of the building, sitting as it does just up from the Carrera del Darro, arguably Granada’s prettiest street, and the styling, design and interior finishes are of very fine quality.

Of the 14 apartments, 5 have already been reserved and it is expected that the remaining apartments will sell very quickly.

The BBC One programme, ‘Amanda and Alan’s Spanish Job’ was filmed across Andalucia throughout the summer of 2024. Amanda Holden and Alan Carr bought an abandoned village house in Moclín through Granada Village & Country, and the historic village was the main focus for the programme, following Alan and Amanda’s progress as they restored the property.

‘Amanda and Alan’s Spanish Job’ was first shown on BBC One from 24th January 2025 and is available on iPlayer.

The restored property is now available for sale through Granada Village & Country, and featured on Rightmove.
