Digital Nomad Visa

As part of the ‘Andalucia Life’ section of our website, we will be inviting guests to contribute regular articles aimed at helping anyone living in, relocating to or moving within southern Spain. The first of these articles has been written by lawyer, Rafael Guerrero Martín from Andalucia Lawyers.

Choose a Spanish Nomad Visa and enjoy the best of both worlds.

Are you tired of counting the 90 days every time you come to visit Spain and you wished you could stay working here for a longer term? Are you considering moving to Spain but you want to keep working for your foreign company or foreign clients? Does the idea of high taxation in Spain make you hesitate?

To qualify for the Digital Nomad Visa in Spain, you must meet the following basic requirements:

  • Be a non-EU national

  • Not have previously resided illegally in Spain

  • Be able to perform your activity remotely via computer

  • Employer (if you are an employee) must be based outside Spain; or if self-employed / freelancer, most of your clients/customers must be outside Spain. Income from Spanish clients (if any) must not exceed 20% of total professional income.

  • Demonstrate you have been working for the same company/client for at least 3 months if you are an employee. If you are a company/business, you should have been functioning for at least 1 year.

  • Show evidence of relevant work experience or professional degree.

  • Prove stable and sufficient monthly income – at least 200% of Spanish minimum wage (for 2025, at least 2.763 €/month)

  • Proof of valid health insurance

  • Commitment for payment of Spanish Social Security contribution

The process can either be initiated at the Spanish consulate while you are abroad or online at the UGE (Unidad de Grandes Empresas) administration once you arrive in Spain on your tourist visa:

  • Gather the required documentation

  • Submit the application

  • Wait for processing – it would normally take less than 20 working days

  • Visa issuance

  • Apply for residence permit (TIE) in Spain

If you apply from outside Spain (via consulate), the initial visa would be valid for up to 1 year. However, if you apply online while you are legally present in Spain, the initial permit will be valid for up to 3 years.

Once you have your visa granted, you might like to benefit from the special taxation regime well-known as Beckham Law. You could qualify if you meet all the following requirements:

  • You have not been tax resident in Spain in the previous 5 tax years

  • You move to Spain because you will perform remote work for a foreign employer

  • Your employer is a foreign company

  • You must apply within 6 months from the start date of Spanish social security registration

If you meet these requirements: CONGRATULATIONS - you would enjoy the perks of Beckham Law: flat tax rate of 24% up to €600,000, taxed only on Spanish-source income, no wealth tax on foreign assets, no reporting of foreign assets.

Spain offers affordable high-quality lifestyle and a great infrastructure for remote workers - are you willing to enjoy the amazing culture and climate, full access to the entire Schengen Area while keeping your job?
